Rail Terminal Supervisor

Job Introduction
This role will report to the Terminal Manager supporting to coordinate the safe delivery of all operational activities on site including material handling, rail operations and on-shift interface with other parts of the project. Ensuring Health and Safety, Quality and Environment needs are met along with programme and budget requirements. Supervisory responsibility for Rail Terminal Sub-contractors, Weighbridge operators & traffic marshals.
You will take the lead with front line rail terminal sub-contractor supervisors from SCS, HS2 and the supply chain to ensure our values are built into their culture and our objectives are achieved, this includes helping them to develop throughout the contract.
Main Responsibilities
- Shift working Rail logistics Terminal Supervisor responsible for the shift supervision of the main works and sub-contractor staff working within the Rail Terminal. This includes supervision of sub-contractors carrying out road deliveries, material stockpile management and rail terminal activities.
- Ensure the coordination of and communication between all parts of the operation team including suppliers, subcontractors, engineering, safety and environmental team and clients’ team.
- Build and develop the team to deliver all aspects of the project requirements; identify training requirements, review the performance of the workforce and ensure delivery of briefings.
- Provide, monitor and control labour, plant and materials to meet the programme.
- Supervise on-shift all Rail Terminal suppliers, sub-contractors, and direct workforce.
- Ensure high standard of quality on the works to meet the specification requirements ‘first time’ and minimise disruption.
- Assist the Terminal Manager with working method and outputs for production of RAMS, method statements and material handling programme.
- Monitor and observe rail terminal sub-contractors activities to ensure compliance with RAMS, Permits and other health & safety requirements.
- Ensure accurate, legible, and up-to-date allocation sheets are recorded and provided at shift close with delivery tickets and plant returns to the Rail Logistics and commercial teams.
- Ensure all records for inspections, works permits, briefings etc are up to date and in place.
- Carry out regular safety and environmental inspections and implement recommended courses of action as identified from progress monitoring and management inspections.
- Keep a full and accurate daily site diary, including any changes / variations, subcontractors’ attendance, and records of work-related discussions with client / project team / sub-contractors
- Completing site safety audits where required
- Participating in project improvement to include SHE and quality.
- Finding ways to prevent problems and to solve any that arise
- Ensuring all contractors documents are up to date, i.e insurance, RAMS, and relevant certifications
- Ad hoc duties as job requires
The Ideal Candidate
Required qualifications, skills, behaviors and attributes
Essential:
- Vocational Training (successful experience at Foreman/Supervisor level)
- Understanding of Engineering principles
- Comprehensive understanding and experience of major projects/rail terminal delivery/operational techniques and best practices.
- CSCS Black Card NVQ 6
- Training in Health & Safety and Environmental management
- PASMA
- COSHH awareness
- Good IT Proficiency (Outlook, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel)
- First Aid at work certified
Desirable:
- City & Guilds Construction Certificate
- A61 Appointed Person Lifting Operations
- NRSWA Supervisor.
- MEWPS for managers
- PTS (Personal Track Safety)
- COSS (Controller of Site Safety)
